Srinagar: Two terrorists were neutralised in an encounter at Pazalpora area of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir early Friday morning.

The terrorists were gunned down in an encounter, which broke out in the wee hours on Friday, after the Indian Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF's 92 battalion launched a joint cordon-and-search operation, following inputs about the presence of two to three terrorists in the area.

The identities of the killed terrorists are yet to be ascertained. Sources suggest that they were locals and had joined terror ranks two years ago.

Meanwhile, Army jawan Brijesh Kumar succumbed to his injuries in the military hospital at 92 base Badamibagh, Srinagar.

Srinagar-based defence spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia also confirmed the news of the killing of the two terrorists in the Sopore encounter.

The exchange of fire has stopped now and the place is being searched for the bodies of the terrorists, SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal told MyNation.

"The operation was launched following specific inputs about the presence of two terrorists in the area," he added.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has decided to close all schools and colleges in Baramulla and Sopore. Education institutions in Rafiabad will also remain closed.
