Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has unceremoniously transferred DGP SP Vaid on Thursday evening, and his place will be taken by Director General of Prisons Dilbagh Singh.

An order issued by the Principal Secretary (Home) said that Vaid has been transferred to the post of Transport Commissioner.

Dilbagh Singh will now take over the charge of Jammu and Kashmir police. Sources said that the Home Ministry and the State government were not happy with Vaid’s work.

Recently, the incident of abduction of 11 relatives of policemen by terrorists has been reflected as a failure of law and order, hence leading to Vaid’s transfer.

Speaking to MyNation, the new DGP Dilbagh Singh said that his priority would be to strengthen the Jammu and Kashmir police. The police will continue their war against "enemies of the people" as they have done before. On being asked about the safety of the relatives of policemen, Singh said that this is not a big deal for the police and they are ready to face it.

On the other hand, many top officials of the Jammu and Kashmir police have been talking to MyNation and wondering about this move by the central government. They said that removing Vaid would completely demoralise the entire police department.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has questioned the transfer and asked why the DGP, working in the Jammu and Kashmir police, was removed so quickly, and the additional charge was given to someone else. 

At the same time, sources told MyNation that Singh’s position will be confirmed in the meeting of the coming State administrative council. After this Singh will take charge of the Jammu and Kashmir police for the entire tenure.
