Chennai: Government Stanley Medical College hospital will introduce hair transplants for survivors of burns and acid attacks for free. Hair transplants are very expensive procedures. None of the government hospitals offer this service.
For this project, 20 plastic surgeons of the Institute for Research and Rehabilitation of Hand and department of plastic surgery will undergo training. The surgeons will be trained to perform the procedure in a three-day continuing medical education and live operative workshop.

V Ramadevi, professor and head of the department said to The Hindu that they have treated at least 20-30 patients with burns every month, but they have not performed hair transplants till now.
She also said the patients could do the transplant using their hair through a couple of techniques. This will help in developing their self-esteem and appearance.

Lucknow-based cosmetic and plastic surgeon Vivek Kumar Saxena are giving training to the surgeons. Approximately 20 persons, who had lost their hair and eyebrows to burns will undergo hair transplantation at the live operative workshop.
