Families of ISIS-inspired module operatives seek permission to meet the terror suspects following arrest by NIA

New Delhi: After the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested 10 members of an ISIS-motivated terror group for planning to attack the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office and other vital institutions situated in Delhi, their family members are seeking permission to meet them.

The Patiala House Court is yet to decide whether to grant the kin permission after they moved separate pleas.

All the pleas will be moved by their counsel MS Khan.

As of now, none of the accused have been brought to the court.

The hearing of the case could be an in-camera proceeding after NIA cited threat to national security. 

The central anti-terror agency is seeking 15 days’ custody. However, the counsel of the accused said it will not seek bail until the next hearing. 

All the accused, including a student of civil engineering at the Amity University and a maulvi, belong to the age group of 20-35 years. The rest are welders and businessmen.

Other than the 10 people who have been arrested, 17 have been detained for questioning after the NIA officials conducted raids in 16 locations following a month of investigation and surveillance.

Officials have recovered several items from the terror module operatives. Twenty-five kilos of explosive material, such as potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, sulphur and sugar material paste were seized. Twelve pistols, 150 rounds of live ammunition and one country- made rocket launcher were found during the raids.

Other items that were seized include 112 alarm clocks, mobile phone circuits, batteries, 51 pipes, remote-controlled detonators, wireless and digital doorbells for remote switches, steel containers, electric wires, 91 mobile phones, 134 SIM cards, 3 laptops, knife, sword and ISIS-related literature. Cash worth Rs 7.5 lakh (approximately) was recovered, too.
