Ramanathapuram: Devotees from across the country on Monday visited the Ramanathaswamy temple in Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram on the occasion of Thai Amavasya. It is considered as an auspicious day to pray for the souls of ancestors. Over two lakh devotees visited Ramanathaswamy temple and performed rituals on the beach, which is popularly known as ‘Agnitheertham’.
Several hotels and lodges were overcrowded, and residents of Ramanathapuram allowed the devotees to rest at their houses. Slow moving traffic was observed on the Pamban bridge and pilgrims had to park their vehicles and walk a few kilometres to reach the temple.
