New Delhi: The Congress has dismissed all claims of Ajay Maken resigning as the Delhi party chief.

An official statement from Congress on Tuesday morning said, “He has some health issues and has gone for a check-up. He will be back soon. He had recently met party President Rahul Gandhi and party in charge of Delhi affairs PC Chacko”.

Earlier reports of Maken resigning as Delhi Congress chief surfaced, citing health reasons. The Congress shortly came up with a statement denying it.

Maken has been at odds with the central leadership over the possibility of an understanding between the Congress and Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which ended the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government's 15-year run.

Maken is a senior politician from the Indian National Congress and was twice elected as a Member of Parliament, and three times to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

Maken replaced Arvinder Singh Lovely as Delhi Congress chief three years ago.
