New Delhi: In what appears to be last-ditch effort to garner public sympathy and votes before the all-important Lok Sabha elections 2019, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and members of his party met President Ram Nath Kovind today and sought special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Continuing with his tirade against PM Narendra Modi and an obvious bid to put him in bad light, Naidu levelled serious allegations.  

“We met the President and apprised him of our demands. The central government has ignored the Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation Act promises. Modi government is passing the time without releasing grants to the state,” Naidu said.

Delving into the history of the city of Hyderabad and sounding lugubrious and demagogic, the leader of TDP tried his best to turn tides in his favour.   

"For the development of Hyderabad there has been a struggle for 60 years and today it stands as a world-class city. On seeing the injustice done to Andhra Pradesh, many people went into depression and recently a physically challenged man Arjun Rao committed suicide over the special status not being granted to the state,” he added.

Prior to this, on Monday, Chandrababu Naidu held a day-long fast to impress upon the public that the Narendra Modi-led NDA has meted out injustice to the people of his state. Expectedly, like-minded parties joined him and expressed their support.

It might be recalled that these very members held a show of strength in Kolkata last month and openly called for dislodging of the Modi government. But on the same day, the PM took them on in Gujarat, saying the conglomeration of the like-minded parties was nothing but a conglomeration of the corrupt.
