Attukal Pongala: Thousands of devotees flock to Kerala’s capital

Thiruvananthapuram: Thousands of women across Kerala reached the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple to offer Pongala to the deity. The capital city has geared up for this year’s Attukal Pongala which will take place on Wednesday. Pongala is the most important festival of Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, Thiruvananthapuram. The 10-day- long celebration commences in the Malayalam month of Makaram-Kumbham (Feb - March) on the Karthika star.
Pongala ceremony falls on the auspicious day of Pooram star which coincides with full moon. This festival commemorates the victory of Good over Evil, by the slaying of Pandyan King. Apart from thousands of private vehicles, both Centre and state government facilitate free transportation for devotees on the Pongala day.
