Guwahati: Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday reacted strongly and filed an FIR against an MBA graduate for assaulting his own father and other family members.

The victim Harendra Nath Gayan, who hails from Amolapatty area in central Assam’s Nagaon district, took to Twitter to seek help. He wrote, “My younger son named Rituraj Gayan, who is a computer engineer with an MBA degree, is regularly beating, slapping and kicking me and asking money. I am a retired teacher. He beat my older son and his wife too. Help me and explain my son not to beat me anymore”.

The distressed father also wrote, “Kindly help me...I am a diabetes and heart disease patient. My wife too is diabetic and has heart problems with senile dementia…My whole body is paining. Please help make my son not to beat”.

Responding to Harendra’s tweets, the Assam minister tweeted, “I am getting an FIR registered on the basis of your tweet. Be safe.”

The father said also that his son was working for a company but later left his job and got married four months ago. Frustrated with unemployment, he is regularly torturing his family members.

“I am a retired teacher and had helped him in my own capacity…Same situation happened yesterday also and I tweeted following his act,” said Harendra.

Following the response from the health minister, Harendra notified that the superintendent of police of Nagaon district paid a visit to their house on Monday.

However, the father said that he doesn’t want any strict action against his son.

“I don’t want the police to take any stern action against my son. He is so frustrated now. My son has also apologised for his act,” said Harendra.
