Under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana, farmers will receive subsidies on the purchase of solar pumps. This scheme was first launched in March 2019 by the Central government and the Uttar Pradesh government. 

Grants for solar pumps

A total of 54 thousand farmers in the state of Uttar Pradesh will receive grants for 9 types of solar pumps. For instance, the price of a 2HP DC surface pump is priced at Rs 1,71,716. The state government will provide a grant of Rs 59,291, and the central government will offer a grant of Rs 43,739. This means that the farmers will receive a total grant of Rs 1,03,030 for solar pumps. 

The farmers will be required to deposit a token amount of Rs 5,000 to avail subsidy on solar pumps. The benefits can be availed through online registration process. 

Additional benefits

The price of a 2 HP DC submersible pump is Rs 1,74,541. The state government will provide Rs 60,986 and the central government will provide Rs 43,739. Farmers will only have to pay Rs 64,816 for the pump. 

Farmers will receive grants from both the state and central governments for submersibles ranging from 3 to 10 HP. The UP government will provide a grant of Rs 82,476, while the central government will offer Rs 57,157 for a 3 HP DC submersible pump. Farmers will receive a total grant of Rs 1,39,663.

Farmers can register on the website www.agriculture.up.gov.in. Token money will be required to be deposited during the application process. The applicant must be an Indian resident. The scheme allows for applications for solar power plants ranging from 0.5 MW to 2 MW capacity. A farmer can apply for up to 2 MW capacity based on the size of the land.
