Choosing the right type of hair oil and techniques, can drastically change the health of your hair. Learn about some basic dos and don'ts through this guide.
Our Grandmas always recommended massaging our hair with nourishing oils. Regular hair oiling can promote shine and volume of our beautiful tresses. However, to reap the full rewards of this ritual, it's essential to understand the dos and don'ts that come with it.
Dos:
1. Choose the right oil
Identify your hair type and choose a hair oil accordingly. Opt for oils such as coconut, almond, or jojoba oil, known for their moisturizing and nourishing properties. For more benefits, you can also add a few drops of one of the essential oils like lavender or rosemary.
2. Massage the scalp
Gently massage the oil into your scalp in circular motions to promote hair growth. This helps stimulate blood circulation and prevent dryness or irritation.
3. Leave it on
Allow the oil to penetrate your hair and scalp for at least 30 minutes or even overnight for deep conditioning. Cover your hair with a shower cap or towel to prevent oil stains.
4. Use warm oil
Warm the oil slightly before application to help in better absorption. Avoid overheating the oil, as excessive heat can strip away its beneficial properties.
5. Wash thoroughly
After the oiling session, use a mild shampoo to wash away the oil completely. Gently massage the scalp and hair to remove any residue. Do not rub your hair vigorously to remove the oil.
Don'ts:
1. Using too much oil
Choose the right amount and avoid excessive oiling, as it can weigh down your hair and lead to a greasy appearance. Focus on massaging the scalp and the hair lengths.
2. Forgetting to oil the ends
When oiling your hair, do not forget to oil the ends. Apply a small amount of oil to the tips to prevent dryness and split ends.
3. Applying oil on wet hair
Avoid applying oil to wet or damp hair, as it can create a barrier that prevents moisture in hair.
4. Not being consistent
Consistency is key when it comes to hair oiling. Make it a regular part of your hair care routine, aiming for weekly or bi-weekly sessions to maintain hair health.
