Sawan period began in July and will last until August 19. Worshipping Lord Shiva holds particular importance during Sawan month. Some people set up a Shivlinga at home and perform daily worship. Religious texts provide various rules for Shivlinga worship. According to Ujjain's astrologer Pt Manish Sharma, there are specific considerations to keep in mind when worshiping a Shivlinga at home. Learn more about these guidelines.

How many Shivalingas should be placed?

According to Pt Manish Sharma, religious texts advise against keeping more than one Shivlinga in a single place of worship in the home. Shivlinga represents a focal point of energy, and placing multiple Shivlingas together can cause a conflict in their energies, negatively impacting the home's vastu. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid having more than one Shivlinga at the same worship site.

What should be the size of the Shivlinga?

According to the Shiva Purana, a Shivlinga kept in the house should be no larger than the size of a thumb. It is not advisable to keep a Shivlinga larger than this in the home. It also states that including idols of Goddess Parvati, Ganesha, Kartikeya Swami, and Nandi along with the Shivlinga can lead to more auspicious results.

What to do if Shivlinga gets broken?

Scholars suggest that if the Shivlinga gets broken, it should not be used for worship. The broken Shivlinga should be immersed in a river, and a new Shivlinga should be kept in its place. Worshiping a broken Shivlinga can negatively impact the vastu.
