Cancer affects millions of people every year globally. Poor lifestyle, genetics and various other health reasons can be the causes of cancer. A report in 'A Cancer Journal for Clinicians' by the American Cancer Society suggests that approximately 50 percent of all cancers can be prevented by addressing risk factors. Here are six common risk factors that can cause cancer.

Risk factors

•    Obesity increases the risk of cancer, diabetes and heart-related conditions.

•    Second-hand smoking refers to the harmful effects of cigarette smoke on those who remain in proximity to the person who smokes.

•    Your diet directly affects your health. Insufficient nutrients, excessive fat, and lack of fibre can contribute to cancer. Moreover, various food chemicals can also increase cancer risk.

•    Many people lead sedentary lifestyles without engaging in regular physical exercise, which increases the risk of cancer.

Healthy lifestyle

Preventing cancer caused by genetics or sudden gene mutations is beyond our control. However, maintaining a healthy weight and consuming a diet rich in vital nutrients daily can help reduce the risk. To lead a healthy lifestyle, eat good food and engage in physical activities.
