Several parts of India are currently facing some of the worst heatwaves and temperature rises of all time. The days are getting hotter and hotter and is affecting several people's health, especially children and elders. It is vital to take necessary precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones from the heat.

The Ministry of Health recently made a post on X (formerly Twitter) sharing food-related essential tips and precautions to stay cool and safe this summer. The caption read, "Stay cool, stay safe, and beat those scorching rays with these essential tips. Remember, a little precaution goes a long way in keeping heat-related illnesses at bay."

Below are some food-related precautions you can take to keep yourself cool and safe this summer.

  • Avoid cooking during peak summer hours: If possible, avoid cooking during the hottest hours of the day to keep your home and kitchen cool.
  • Open doors and windows to ventilate the cooking area: Ensure proper ventilation and airflow during cooking otherwise it can trap heat inside and make the room hot.
  • Avoid high-protein food and do not eat stale food: High-protein food can cause an increase in body temperature and can be dangerous. Stick to a light and balanced diet and avoid stale food.
  • Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks as these may lead to the loss of more body fluid: These beverages do not hydrate the body compared to water and can lead to more dehydration during summer.
