Delhi: NASA is a sought-after space agency for all the space enthusiasts around the world. Many Indians dream of joining NASA as a space scientist. Dr Akshata Krishnamurthy was one of the dreamers who accomplished her dreams of leading space missions at NASA. She earned a PhD degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). 

Dr Akshata Krishnamurthy is a part of the NASA mission that is working to obtain samples from Mars. She is not only an accomplished scientist but is also the first Indian woman to operate a rover on Mars.

A successful journey

In an Instagram post, Dr Akshata Krishnamurthy revealed that she relocated to the USA 13 years ago with dreams of leading science and robotic missions. She had difficulty in acquiring the visa, however, nothing could come in the way of her dreams. She remained determined and earned herself a job at NASA after completing her PhD. 

Steps to become a space scientist

Dr Akshata Krishnamurthy shares that one must nurture an enthusiasm about science from a young age. Working on science projects, cultivating knowledge, and fostering curiosity, these are the ways to excel in the space sciences. 

She advises pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering or science and working on various research projects at reputable institutions. Earning a PhD in Aerospace Robotics, Electronic Mechanics, or Physics, and establishing a network in the space industry, are necessary for applying for a full-time position at NASA.
