As per the Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, the founder of HCL, Shiv Nadar is India’s most generous donor in terms of philanthropy. In 2022-23 financial year, he donated Rs 2042 crore to charities. Azim Premji, the former chairman of the board of directors of the company Wipro, donated Rs 1774 crore in the financial year 2022-23.
As per the Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, the founder of HCL, Shiv Nadar is India’s most generous donor in terms of philanthropy. In 2022-23 financial year, he donated Rs 2042 crore to charities and foundations. This sum is 76 percent more than the sum that Shiv Nadar donated in the previous financial year.
Hurun India Philanthropy List
Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, has the top spot among India’s philanthropists, as revealed in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021. This list highlights that Shiv Nadar, who serves as HCL’s chairman, has claimed the leading position in Indian donations by contributing a staggering Rs 2042 crore. To put it into perspective, he has been giving roughly Rs 5.6 crore daily.
The second in list
As per the list, Azim Premji, the former chairman of the board of directors of the company Wipro, donated Rs 1774 crore in the financial year 2022-23. This amount is 267 percent more than what he donated last year.
Mukesh Ambani
Mukesh Ambani, the head of Reliance Industries, holds the third position among India’s philanthropists. He has donated a total of Rs 376 crore through the Reliance Foundation.
The youngest donor
Nikhil Kamath, the founder of Zerodha, has earned the distinction of being India’s youngest philanthropist with a generous donation of Rs 112 crore. On the other hand, Rohini Nilekani is India’s most significant female philanthropist. With a donation or Rs 170 crore, she ranked 10th in the Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023.
The list features a total of seven women donors. Anu Aga and Leena Gandhi have secured 40th and 41st positions by donating Rs 23 crore each.
Donation by 119 industrialists
In the financial year 2022-23, a total of 119 industrialists made the generous donations. The total donated sum amounts to Rs 8445 crore; this sum is 59 percent higher than the previous year. What’s more remarkable is that 14 industrialists donated more than Rs 100 crore. Whereas, in the previous financial year, only six people had contributed this amount.
