Lucknow: The reports of road accidents come as a nightmarish event for all the involved families. The increasing numbers of road accidents are alarming, and the matter requires serious effort from the side of authorities. A constable from Uttar Pradesh witnessed a terrible accident some 25 years ago when he was posted at Vishnugarh police station in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh, and he felt tremendous pain for the families of the deceased persons. That very same day, he took a pledge to spread awareness about the traffic rules among public.
Who is Bhoop Singh Yadav?
Bhoop Singh Yadav, originally a resident of Nagla-Gode village, is a Sub-Inspector (SI) posted at Women Power Line 1090 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He has been running his awareness campaign since 1999 when he worked as a constable. So far, almost 1600 camps have been organized in schools and other institutions and more than 8 lakh people have attended these sessions.
SI Bhoop Singh has been honoured with insignia along with 26 awards at Republic Day. 1125 people and senior officers have sent him appreciation letters.
A step towards a better future
When Bhoop Singh analyzed the road accidents, he learned that most of them could have been prevented by simple precautions. What is more disturbing is that many people driving on roads are unaware of and have no knowledge about traffic rules and regulations.
Bhoop Singh realizes his responsibility as a police officer and selflessly provides lessons on traffic rules and regulations to young kids as well as to adult drivers. He does not receive any compensation for his work and organizes the events at his own expense.
Concern from family
When Bhoop Singh expressed his desire to carry on this responsibility to his family for the first time, he was asked about questions about the benefits of such campaigns and if they might actually help anyone. He explained the matters to his family, and his wife recognized the importance of his campaigns and encouraged him to continue the work.
Bhoop Singh believes that there are plenty of things in this world that needs improving. He cannot save the entire world, but he can contribute his bit to saving a single person’s life. People worship God so as to find peace within themselves, whereas social work is in itself a way to godliness. There is nothing more noble than to be someone who saves another person’s life.
Comments from the public
Bhoop Singh mentions that thousands of freedom fighters laid their lives for the independence of his country. His contributions will never be equivalent to theirs, however, he wishes to be in the service of his country and people in whatever way he can. His speeches are a way to prevent road accidents, which in turn saves people’s lives.
Working towards women safety
Bhoop Singh has organized over 400 camps in training institutes and educational institutions regarding women’s safety. Young girls and women are made aware about the helpline numbers and are trained to confront harassers publicly. He does not let his police duties suffer from it and takes leave from his work to organize such campaigns.
