Kolkata: Pathikrit Saha is a 26-year-old food delivery agent from West Bengal. He had stable government job in the Dum Dum district; however, his work restricted him to extend his help to the underprivileged children. Today, he provides free meals and education to children living on the footpaths while covering the expenses from his own salary or donations made by generous people.
Who is Pathikrit Saha?
The meaning of Pathikrit’s name is someone who guides people on the right path. He is a resident of 24 North Pargana district, West Bengal. He embraced his role as a helper since childhood. In the year 2013, he, along with friends, founded Help Foundation, providing essentials to the less fortunate. In 2015, he secured a government job in Dum Dum.
A will to help
Prathikrit shares an incident when a 6-year-old kid requested for money at Dum Dum Cantonment Railway Station. The young child was afraid that if he returned home empty-handed, his mother would throw him out of the house. Pathikrit’s compassion grew as he pondered the plight of such children. This encounter prompted him to address the issue of children begging on the streets. His aim was to bring a significant solution to the circumstances.
Starting a school
Prathikrit wanted to do more than just providing meals. He believed in fostering self-reliance through education. Along with his friends, he commenced on a mission of feeding and educating children. In the beginning, there were only 3 students at his school, today, the initiative has expanded, benefiting 30 children.
Leaving the job
Pathikrit faced a dilemma as his government job conflicted with his social work. In the year 2017, he resigned from his government job to manage his responsibilities as a social worker better. He got himself a job as a food delivery agent. The food company’s policy allowed delivery agents to keep the cancelled orders. Pathikrit decided to use this opportunity to help the children in need.
A hope for a better life
Pathikrit shares that he is popularly known as ‘Roll Kaka’ in his school because of his efforts to provide food. Children benefitting from Pathikrit’s schools are now securing admissions in government schools. Supported by people’s donations, he supplies notebooks and books to these children. He has helped over 2 dozen children to receive good education in reputable schools. He is successfully making a significant contribution to society while empowering the young children of the country.
