Recently, 18-year-old Sunny Kumar from Noida made headlines for cracking the NEET UG exam with 664 marks out of 720, despite selling samosas for a living. However, this is not the only story of a student overcoming obstacles to achieve their dreams. Ruby Prajapati, from Gujarat, also faced numerous challenges before cracking the medical entrance exam in 2023.

Ruby hails from a small village in Gujarat. Her father is an auto driver, her mother is a housewife, and she has a brother with a speech delay disorder. She also lost another younger brother to an illness. Despite these hardships, Ruby persevered and cleared the NEET UG exam on her fourth attempt. She is currently pursuing MBBS from VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

Diagnosed with TB in 2018

Ruby's determination to become a doctor stemmed from her desire to be financially independent and to serve her community. Having witnessed the lack of adequate medical facilities in her village, which she believes contributed to her brother's untimely demise, she resolved to make a difference. However, her journey was far from easy. In 2018, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Undeterred, she fought the illness and five years later, cleared the NEET exam with 635 marks. Her uncle supported her financially, enabling her to enroll in a reputed coaching center.
