A Gujarati family undertook an epic road trip from India to the UK in their vintage car, Lal Pari, spanning 76 days.
A family from Gujarat has embarked on an unforgettable adventure, journeying from India to the UK in their vintage 1950 English-made car, affectionately named Lal Pari, or "Red Angel." This remarkable road trip spanned 76 days and covered over 13,500 kilometers, taking the Thakore family through 16 countries before reaching London.
The journey began on 12 August 2023, when Daman Thakore, his 75-year-old father Deval, and his 21-year-old daughter Devanshi set out from Ahmedabad. After a short detour via the sea route from Mumbai to Dubai, they arrived in Dubai on 28 August. From there, they shipped Lal Pari to Iran, and continued their adventure through Azerbaijan, Albania, Germany, and France, finally reaching the UK on 26 October.
Although the trip concluded last year, it has recently gained attention as the family shares their experiences on social media. A video capturing highlights from their journey has gone viral on Instagram, drawing admiration from viewers. One user reminisced about a similar trip, stating, "In 1976, I drove with my parents from London to Sri Lanka; more people must enjoy such once-in-a-lifetime exciting overland trips." Another commented humorously on the family's journey, likening them to a modern-day "Lawrence of Arabia."
The Thakore family dedicated two years to preparing for this adventure, which included restoring their vintage car to optimal condition. They sourced various spare parts globally, and at one point, Daman traveled to the UK specifically to procure a crucial component.
Their journey not only celebrates the spirit of exploration but also showcases the enduring bonds of family across generations, making it a truly inspiring tale of adventure.
