For many, joining prestigious services like IAS, IFS, IPS, and IRS through the UPSC Civil Services Examination is a cherished dream. However, not everyone's journey unfolds in the same way. Some, like Gaurav Kaushal from Haryana, decide to carve out a new path after clearing the UPSC. Let’s read his inspiring story.
Background
Gaurav Kaushal, a bright student from his early years, completed his schooling in Panchkula. He initially cleared the JEE engineering entrance exam and enrolled at IIT Delhi, where he studied for a year. However, feeling that it wasn't the right fit for him, he transferred to BITS Pilani to pursue a BTech in Computer Science. After a year there, he changed his course yet again, this time moving to Punjab Engineering College, where he ultimately earned his BTech degree. His educational journey reflects a search for the right career path.
38th rank in UPSC 2012
During his studies, Gaurav developed a keen interest in civil services. In 2012, he achieved an impressive 38th rank in the UPSC exam and joined the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES). In this role, he managed military land and oversaw the administrative functions of the Cantonment Board. However, despite being in a respected position, he felt a sense of dissatisfaction. Deep down, he yearned for a different path, driven by an inner voice urging him to pursue something more meaningful.
Left the job after 12 years
After 12 years, Gaurav decided to leave his job and dedicate himself to mentoring UPSC candidates. He launched a YouTube channel where he shares insights on exam preparation, effective strategies, and motivational talks. His engaging content quickly gained popularity among students, and he realised that he could make an even greater impact by helping them on a larger scale.
Gaurav Kaushal App
Gaurav then launched the 'Gaurav Kaushal App', designed to provide personalised guidance to UPSC aspirants. Operating on a "first come, first served" basis, the app ensures candidates receive timely support. Through this platform, Gaurav has assisted hundreds of students, guiding them on the right path for their UPSC preparations and helping them achieve their goals.
