Suhas L Yathiraj, an IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh, has achieved an incredible feat in Para Badminton. He has secured the first spot in the world rankings. Remarkably, he is also the first IAS officer to win a medal at the Paralympics. IAS officer Suhas Yathiraj has also been honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award. 

Becoming World No 1

Suhas Yathiraj clinched a silver medal in the SL-4 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. He currently holds 60,527 points in the Para Badminton World Rankings. He expressed his joy through a social media post on which he wrote “Finally number one.”

He also mentioned that for the first time in his life, he has achieved the number one rank in the world in men’s singles in the latest Badminton World Federation Rankings. He has taken over the world number one spot from player Lucas Mazur of France. 

He expressed gratitude for the blessings and good wishes he received from many. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath congratulated Suhas on this remarkable achievement.

IAS Suhas LY is the Secretary in Sports Department of Uttar Pradesh. Since his birth, he has had a disability in his legs. He had a keen interest in sports and received immense support from his family. They encouraged him to pursue his passion for sports. 

Education

Suhas graduated with a degree in Computer Science from NIT, Surat. Then, he began preparing for the UPSC exams. After cracking the exams, he received his first posting in Agra. He served as the District Magistrate in seven districts. Throughout his administrative career, he remained dedicated to sports.
