Chhattisgarh: Rahul Singh, born in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, completed his early education at a government school. Despite family’s financial constraints, he prepared for engineering entrance exams and secured admission to the prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT). After his graduation, he pursued an MBA in Jamshedpur. Rahul aspired to fulfil his parents’ dreams of a better life and moved to New York in 2008.
Over the years, he gained significant experience working in various companies. In the year 2019, he returned to India and embarked on his entrepreneurial journey. He launched a venture called EcoSoul Home, manufacturing plates and other products from tree leaves. Today, the company boasts a turnover of Rs 600 crore.
Leaving the US-based job
Rahul Singh was leading a comfortable life in America until an incident at home prompted him to return to India. Back in 2016-17, he was serving as the global head of an American company and his brother also lived abroad. When his father suffered a heart attack and no one was available to care for their parents, Rahul’s younger brother made the decision to return to India. Worried about his parents’ health, Rahul too began considering returning to his home.
Launching EcoSoul
Rahul Singh contemplated his next steps upon returning to India. Several innovative business ideas came to his mind until he was struck by an inspiring one. He decided to transform waste material into high-quality products. To kickstart his venture, he sold his house in America and secured capital for EcoSoul. Initially, the business focused on exporting the manufactured products. Challenges were faced during the pandemic as it led to increased raw material costs. The company even incurred substantial losses. However, despite the setbacks, Rahul persevered and continued working on his venture.
Achieving success
In the early stages, Rahul Singh did not receive support from artisans and manufacturers of eco-friendly products. Many were reluctant to collaborate with him. However, gradually, he established trust within the community of workers. Presently, his company exports products to over 10 countries, and has connections with 150 manufacturers.
Around 100 people are employed at his company, with a majority being women. Over 43 products are made using materials like bamboo pulp and palm leaves. These products are also available online, making the process convenient for buyers.
