Amardeep Kumar's early life in Bihar was full of challenges. His family's financial situation was so dire that he worked as a waiter and washed dishes at a restaurant to make the ends meet. Driven by a strong desire to excel in life, he managed to continue his studies while working and also provided tuition classes to children.

He moved to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exams, but later, he took up a job after facing failure in the exams. Eventually, he returned to Bihar and started an agarbatti (incense stick) factory in Samastipur. Today, his company’s annual turnover is Rs 3 crore. Let’s read about his inspiring journey.

Background

Born into a poor family in Bihar, Amardeep faced significant financial hardships growing up. To support his family, he began working in a restaurant at a young age, earning just Rs 7 a day. This meagre amount was insufficient for his family's needs, but despite the harsh conditions, his dream of studying remained undiminished.

Perseverance

While working at the restaurant for eight years, Amardeep completed his studies. He initially went to Patna and then to Delhi to prepare for the Civil Services Exam (UPSC). Although he did not succeed, he later worked in the corporate sector in Bangalore, earning a good salary. However, he found this job unsatisfying and felt a strong desire to help others. As a result, he returned to Bihar to pursue this goal.

Business ventures

Amardeep, inspired by his wife Dr Hemlata Singh to help his community, established an NGO in Rampur Samthu. In 2019, he founded Morang Desh Ventures Pvt Ltd, starting with an investment of Rs 6 lakh to manufacture incense sticks. The business has since grown significantly, providing employment to around 100 people and achieving an annual turnover of Rs 3 crore.
