The incredible journey of a 24-year-old from the streets of Mumbai to the fashion runway is inspiring countless dreamers across India. What began as a struggle for livelihood for Sahil Singh has now transformed into a successful modelling career. This year, Sahil Singh walked the ramp for Streax.
His journey began as a Swiggy delivery agent, then a chef, and finally, a professional model.

Swiggy delivery agent for 2 years

On social media, Sahil Singh revealed that before entering the fashion industry, he worked as a Swiggy delivery agent for 2 years, followed by a year as a chef at Burger King, and later at Mango Mart for 8 months. It was only after these jobs that he got his first modelling assignment. His social media post read, "Delivery boy to sales executive to MODEL."

Menial jobs

After dropping out of school, he took on various odd jobs to support himself. As a Swiggy delivery agent, he earned Rs 18,000 to Rs 22,000 per month. However, his dream of becoming a model never diminished. According to Hindustan Times, Sahil Singh first knew he wanted to work in fashion industry when he saw a model’s poster in 2009. At that time, he was selling purses on the street. Since 2017, he has been learning about how to succeed in the fashion world.

Facing rejections

Despite participating in nearly 200 auditions, Sahil Singh faced challenges due to his height. He further stated, "My height is 5 feet 10 inches. This is the minimum for a model in India. Even with Streax, I had to repeatedly request them to let me walk the ramp. They agreed on the condition that I wear heels." And finally, he walked the ramp for Streax this year.

Being an inspiration

Sahil Singh has become a mentor to aspiring models, sharing tips and advice through social media. He regularly posts videos on men's grooming and styling on his Instagram handle and recently launched a series to guide newcomers in the industry. In another video, he highlighted the importance of networking in securing modelling work.

He advised that signing up for a modeling agency is not enough for a fresher. You need to build a network with photographers, stylists, designers, and studio personnel so that if they are looking for a model, you will be the first to get the job. He further suggested that freshers reach out to industry professionals through direct messages on social media or by sending emails to establish connections.
