With dedication, the right guidance, and expert advice, remarkable results are possible. Dushyant Kumar Singh, a young farmer from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, exemplifies this. After completing his BTech and spending a year in a private job in Bangalore, he made the bold decision to leave it all behind and pursue farming under the mentorship of agriculture expert Subhash Palekar. Today, he is reaping substantial profits, and his success story inspires the youth.

Background

Dushyant Kumar Singh, a resident of Basantpur village in Ballia district, completed his BTech in 2017 and began working for a private company in Bangalore. Unfulfilled by the corporate life, he took a bold step to pursue farming, a risky choice in an era when many young people seek stable private jobs. However, Dushyant's passion for his village and agriculture guided his decision.

Meeting Subhash Palekar

Dushyant's life took a transformative turn when he met agriculture expert Subhash Palekar at an agriculture camp in Bangalore. Through Palekar, he learned the benefits and scientific methods of natural farming. Following this guidance, Dushyant gradually became a successful farmer.

Cultivating Black Salt Rice

He has been growing black salt rice for the past four years, capitalizing on its high market demand. Notably, this paddy variety requires less irrigation, yielding about 55 to 60 quintals per hectare. This year, he has planted black salt rice on 65 bighas and Manila rice on 4 bighas.

Investment

Dushyant practices chemical-free farming, relying on cow dung and other organic fertilizers from his animal husbandry to enhance crop quality. The cost of cultivating black salt paddy is just Rs 4,000 to 5,000 per bigha, while profits can reach up to Rs 60,000 per bigha. This year, he planted black salt Kiran rice across 65 bighas, anticipating a profit of around Rs 39 lakh, with total costs amounting to only three lakh rupees. His success demonstrates how hard work and smart farming can significantly boost profits.
