Success comes to those who work for it. Vikas Senthiya achieved his dream of becoming an IAS in UPSC 2022 exams. This was his second attempt; in his first try he had received a position in IRPFS cadre.
Bhopal: Vikas Senthiya is a resident of Gauram village in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. He enrolled at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi after passing class 12th from Madhya Pradesh board. He had been a student of Hindi medium all his life, and studying in English medium at university posed several problems for him. He even considered to drop out from the college. On motivation of a friend, her persevered and completed his graduation.
IRPFS in UPSC 2020 and IPS in 2022
Vikas’s greatness lies in the fact that he has appeared for the UPSC exams twice and has qualified for them both the times. He learned about this competitive exam post the completion of his graduation. With the support of his family, he began his preparation. His family had put faith in him and had sent him to Delhi for his higher studies. He decided to make his parents and his district feel proud of him.
In the year 2020, he tried his first attempt in the UPSC exams, and secured 642 rank with a position in IRPFS cadre. He was not satisfied with the results and so decided to appear for a second attempt. In 2022, he qualified for the exams again and secured an impressive 482 rank. This time, he was appointed in the IPS cadre.
Problems at home
Vikas’s village is located near the banks of Sindh River in Mehgaon, Madhya Pradesh. The area is popularly known as Chambal. Vikas’s father works as a farmer. There were financial challenges, but his father was determined to send Vikas to Delhi for his further studies from the very beginning. Vikas wanted to secure a good rank in his first few attempts as his extended stay in Delhi would have been a financial burden for his parents.
Delhi’s top colleges
After completing bachelor’s from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi, Vikas got an admission in MA Hindi literature in Hansraj College, Delhi University. By regularly reading newspapers and consulting dictionaries, he improved his academic performance.
Vikas mentions that students must find what they are best at. Working on our weaknesses is crucial, but it is equally vital to further develop our strengths.
