He travelled 1,100 km in 5 days, departing from Tikka, a village near Pathsala town in Assam, on July 21 and arriving in Jharkhand on July 26. His five-day journey concluded with a visit to the Baba Baidyanath temple in Deogarh. During his journey, his aim was to spread an awareness that cycling is an effective way to reduce pollution and is also beneficial for health.

Benefits of cycling

Sarma's primary goal in undertaking such a long bicycle journey was to urge people to reduce air pollution in any way possible. He advocated for using bicycles for short trips and highlighted the importance of being environment-friendly throughout his 1,100 km journey. Sarma also stressed that the environment is continually becoming more polluted, and that collective effort is needed to keep it clean.

Increased numbers of petrol and diesel vehicles on the road are harming the environment. Traffic congestion is also a major contributor to air pollution, but it can be reduced. Sarma's cycling journey aims to highlight this issue, encouraging people to use bicycles for short distances, which also promotes physical fitness.
