Abhishek Sujit Sharma, who grew up in the Lokmanya Tilak Nagar slum in Mumbai, has completely transformed his life by cracking JEE and gaining admission into IIT. He lives in a slum area with his family and his incredible achievement has given everyone a hope for a better future. Abhishek has gained admission to IIT Roorkee, and the JEE Advanced results marked a pivotal moment in his life. Despite facing numerous challenges, including a lack of educational environment and prevalent drug use in his community, he managed to write a success story by overcoming every obstacle that he faced.

Background

Abhishek has become an inspiring figure for students living in slums. His father works as a labourer in a steel fabrication company, earning just Rs 3000 a month. The family lives in a small, rented room in Harad Chawl, where all four members share the same space for cooking, studying, and sleeping. Given these challenging conditions, Abhishek's journey has been incredibly difficult and impressive.

Enduring challenges

In an interview video, Abhishek shares how most people in the chawl are drug addicts, leading to daily noise and conflicts. Children, disheartened by the environment, often play instead of studying. The chawl lacks basic facilities, including private toilets, so the family uses public ones. His parents made significant sacrifices, allowing him to study comfortably in bed while they slept on the floor. This hardship became Abhishek’s greatest motivation, helping him stay focused on his studies.

Becoming an inspiration

Abhishek faced numerous challenges, including limited internet access due to financial constraints. When his own internet data would run out, he would go to the rooftop to use someone else's Wi-Fi. One of his significant hurdles was steering clear of negative influences, a challenge he successfully navigated. Recently, Alakh Pandey, the founder of Physicswallah, visited Abhishek's Mumbai slum and congratulated him. This visit has become a viral sensation on social media.
