Among India’s numerous infrastructure achievements, a new accomplishment has been added. The world’s highest railway bridge has been constructed in Jammu and Kashmir. A successful trial of a train has also been conducted. It has also earned recognition as the highest arched railway bridge in the world.

The total length of Chenab Bridge is 1315 metres, with arch’s length totalling up to 467 metres. Remarkably, this bridge is taller than the Eiffel Tower. It has been designed to withstand extreme weather conditions.

Moreover, Chenab Bridge can also withstand even the most severe earthquakes. Trains can travel through the bridge at a speed of 100km/hr. It has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1486 crore on the Chenab River between Dugga-Bakkal stations. It is a big breakthrough in India’s railway history.

This bridge has been built under the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. This will connect the remote areas of Kashmir with the major cities across the country. Transporting goods to the Kashmir Valley through the Chenab bridge will become easier. This will also boost both tourism and business in the state.
