Bengaluru: With India managing to keep coronavirus cases under check, the World Health Organisation has commended the country.
Its chief Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “India has shown great progress in significantly driving down the number of #COVID19 cases. This shows us that if we can do these simple public health solutions, we can beat the virus...With vaccines being added, we would even expect more and better outcomes."
“Although high in absolute terms, India has managed to restrict the morbidity to 7,801 cases per million population, which is far lower than other similarly affected countries," MoS for Health Ashwini Choubey said in the Lok Sabha.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has managed to keep the numbers under control.
The country began distributing coronavirus vaccines to its citizens last month. To its credit, India also happens to be the first country to vaccinate 4 million people.
At the same time, India is also looking to release its third vaccine by June this year.
True to the saying Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, India has also managed to export vaccines to several countries while it vaccinates its own.
They are:
1. Sri Lanka
2. Nepal
3. Bangladesh
4. Maldives
5. Bhutan
6. Myanmar
7. Seychelles
8. Brazil
9. Morocco
10. Mauritius
11. Bahrain
It is to be noted that India produces 60% of the world’s vaccines and countries.
Serum Institute of India Ltd. and Bharat Biotech International Ltd are the companies that supply the vaccines.
India has approved Covishield and Covaxin for emergency use.
Atmanirbhar Bharat:
When the Prime Minister launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign last year, he stressed on the fact that local talents must be nurtured and honoured and that India should not necessarily be an inward-looking country.
It also means that the country will become the manufacturing hub of the entire world.
