Eight railway stations in Uttar Pradesh were renamed on Tuesday evening. All these stations are located in Amethi district, which is considered a Congress stronghold. This change was long awaited, as former MP Smriti Irani had written a letter to change the names of these stations. Now these stations have been named after temples and saints.

This proposal approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Technology and Survey of India. This approval came just before the Lok Sabha elections. The final approval for the name change is given by the Railways, which has now been completed. Now very soon, apart from the boards with new names at these stations, new names will also be visible on the departmental website.
