Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman received 'dahi cheeni' and blessings from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu before the presentation of Union Budget 2024. The ceremony is held on July 23, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Sitharaman arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in a white silk saree with a purple border. She was there to meet President Murmu before heading to Parliament to announce the Budget at 11 AM.

Feeding 'dahi cheeni' before any important task is an old Indian tradition. It is generally done by the elders of the household to give blessings and grant best wishes before a key event.

Sitharaman is India's first full-time woman Finance Minister. She took the responsibility of Finance Minister in 2019 when PM Modi got the second term. Since then, Sitharaman has consistently presented the Union Budget every year.

The Union Budget includes several sectors such as agriculture, education, infrastructure, and healthcare. The budget provides insights into government priorities and initiatives for the upcoming year. This year it will be the first budget presented by the BJP-led NDA government and will be an opportunity to look into the government's plan to combat inflation, reduce unemployment, and steer sustainable development. As per the economic survey presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament, in the medium term, the Indian economy is capable of growing at a rate of 7%.
