TikTok is an iOS and Android media app for creating and sharing short videos. It is a leading short video platform in Asia, United States, and other parts of the world.

Owned by ByteDance, the app was launched as Douyin in China in September 2016 and introduced to the overseas market as TikTok one year later. As of 2018, it is available in over 150 markets, and in 75 languages.

After advocate Muthukumar filed a case in Madras High Court, the high court passed an interim ban on Tik-Tok in India for inappropriate and pornographic content.

The Madras High Court's Madurai Bench lifted the ban on the app on condition that pornographic video will not be uploaded on it, failing which contempt of court proceeding would begin.

The company announced on 8th May that TikTok reclaimed the top free app on iOS and top free app in the "social" category on the Google Play Store.

The Entertainment Strategy and Partnerships Lead of TikTok (India), Sumedhas Rajgopal said "We would like to express our deepest gratitude and thank our over 200 million users in India for the overwhelming response, support and love they have shown towards TikTok. We are looking forward to continuing our journey with our TikTok family and actively work towards ensuring a safe and positive in-app experience for our users."
