India is making significant progress in terms of road development. In the last few decades, the country has witnessed massive and impressive growth with the construction of several expressways and highways. The connectivity of remote areas with cities has significantly improved, resulting in the improved livelihood of people. Among these expressways is the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, spanning 1350 kilometres, this links Haryana to Gujarat. It covers several districts of Rajasthan on its route.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is an 8-lane wide expressway which is expandable to 12 lanes. Presently, the expressway is partially operational. Certain routes on the expressway have been opened for travelling, while several sections will be completed within the next 2 years. One of the standout features of the expressway is that it will facilitate quicker travel. 

Shorter distance

Travelling from Delhi to Surat via this expressway spans 800 kilometres as compared to the normal route of 1150 kilometres. The travel time through this expressway is also significantly shorter than the train journey, which covers 1121 kilometres. Notably, travellers can cover the distance comfortably as the expressway is equipped with charging stations. Patrolling teams will also make the rounds to ensure everyone’s safety.

The project’s launch

On 8th March 2019, the foundation stone for the project was laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, in the presence of late politicians Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley. The total project value, including land acquisition costs, amounts to around Rs 1,00,000 crore equivalent to USD 13.1 billion.
