Kerala government is in discussion to launch a new initiative to reduce the burden of heavy school bags. They are considering implementing ‘bag free days,’ which would allow students from classes 1 to 12 to attend school without carrying their heavy bags for at least four days each month.
Concerns about school bags
Parents have raised concerns about the weight of school bags. In response, Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty has stated that the state government is exploring various solutions to address these issues. A decision will be made soon to relieve students from classes 1 to 12 of the burden of heavy bags. Numerous complaints and suggestions from parents and supporters of the public education system have been received regarding this matter.
Bagless days for students
According to Sivankutty, efforts are being made to reduce the burden of textbooks. He also mentioned that the school books are already split into two parts to address the issue. Despite this, complaints about heavy school bags persist. To find a solution, the government is considering introducing ‘bag free days’ in state schools for at least four days each month. Moreover, guidelines may be issued to limit the weight of school bags for students of different grades.
