Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented Budget 2019 in Lok Sabha on Friday (July 5).

Nirmala Sitharaman is the second woman to have presented the budget and the first woman to do so in the capacity of finance minister. The first woman to present the budget was former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1970.

Sitharaman was seen outside the Ministry of Finance with a folder containing the all-important budget documents.

What caught everyone’s eyes was that the folder was wrapped in a red cloth and was far from the traditional briefcase that was usually carried, in the past.
