The Maharashtra government has issued a GR banning t-shirts, jeans, and inappropriate printed clothing items for teachers. Male teachers can wear formal shirts and trousers with the shirt tucked in. For female teachers, the guideline suggests a salwar/curidar with a kurta and dupatta or a saree.
The government of Maharashtra has announced a new dress code for school teachers. Female teachers can wear salwar or churidar with a kurta and dupatta or a saree, while male teachers must wear formal shirts and trousers with the shirt tucked in. Jeans, T-shirts, or any shirts with unnecessary designs or prints are banned.
The School Education Department issued a Government Resolution (GR) stating that schools must decide their dress codes according to government guidelines. The issued statement applies to all non-private, private, funded, or non-funded schools in Maharashtra. It talks about the need for teachers to be more cautious and mindful of what they wear at schools in front of young impressionable children.
The GR also grants permission to schools to decide on the colour of their dress codes. It suggests that the shirts for male teachers should be light in colour, paired with dark trousers. Teachers are also allowed to use the prefix 'Tr' in front of their names, similar to doctors and advocates.
There are also some guidelines for footwear for male and female teachers. Male teachers are required to wear formal shoes, while female teachers are expected to wear 'appropriate ' footwear. However, exceptions for medical reasons can be applied.
Male teachers have no instructions regarding the length of hair, beard, or moustache. The statement emphasises the need for neat and proper clothing by teachers, as students and their parents look up to them. Having a professional and disciplined attire can make a difference and be a good influence on students.
