Kollam: Kerala Police nabbed 25-year-old man for trying to kill a woman by setting her ablaze using petrol. According to sources, it is reported that the man was upset as the woman refused to accept Shinu's marriage proposal. The accused is a Vadesswrikonam native.
It is reported that Shinu met the girl when she joined college and he approached her family with a marriage proposal, which they denied. Angered by this, the spurned lover started to threaten the girl.
On Tuesday, Shinu reached the girl's house when her parents were not at home. On seeing Shinu walking towards her house, the girl locked herself inside the house and immediately called her family to inform them about the matter. As the girl refused to open the doors, Shinu climbed over the roof of the house and entered the house.
As the girl saw a can of petrol in his hands, she screamed. Hearing this, the neighbours reached the house and thrashed the accused and informed the police about the matter. In some time, the police reached the spot and took him into custody.
In a similar incident, a 34-year-old woman police constable Soumya died after she was allegedly set ablaze by a policeman on Saturday. The Kerala Police have not yet arrested the accused police officer NA Ajas as his condition continues to be serious. He is presently undergoing dialysis as the burn injury has affected his kidneys.
Sources suggest that Ajas confessed to killing Soumya as she had refused to marry him and had been avoiding him ever since. He also reportedly told the Ambalappuzha magistrate that he had no other motive and nobody else was involved.
