The man's overwhelming attraction to online cricket betting took a dark turn, causing him to amass substantial debts as he chased after quick riches. Unfortunately, his wife reached a breaking point, feeling overwhelmed by the relentless demands of moneylenders who had supported her husband's risky financial endeavors. Facing harassment from those seeking repayment, she tragically chose to end her own life.

The creditors allegedly resorted to threatening the family's reputation due to unpaid debts. Ranjita V, a 24-year-old married to Darshan Balu from Holalkere, was found dead in her bedroom on March 19. Following this heartbreaking event, Ranjita's father, Venkatesh M, filed a complaint against 13 individuals who had provided financial aid to Darshan.

In a suicide note, Ranjita described the distress she and her husband, who is in his late 20s, faced at the hands of the moneylenders. As a result, a case of abetment to suicide under IPC 306 was registered against the 13 suspects. Three of the accused, identified as Shivu, Girish, and Venkatesh, have been taken into custody, while the others yet to be apprehended. Darshan and Ranjita leave behind a two-year-old son.

Venkatesh suspects that Darshan lost Rs 1.5 crore in cricket betting, although he managed to repay a significant portion of the borrowed funds. However, Darshan reportedly still owed around Rs 54 lakh, according to undisclosed sources.

In his complaint, Venkatesh defended Darshan, claiming his son-in-law was coerced into cricket betting by the suspects who falsely portrayed it as an easy way to make money. These individuals allegedly supported Darshan's betting activities by providing financial assistance in exchange for blank cheques as security.

Despite Darshan's involvement in online cricket betting from 2021 to 2023, his luck turned sour, resulting in the loss of all his invested money. Venkatesh expressed frustration over the demands made by the suspects for Darshan to repay his outstanding debts immediately.
