Plans of Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy blooding his son Nikhil from Mandya may be a reality as supporters from the region want someone from the Gowda family to continue
Shivamogga:In what is a definitive sign of furtherance of dynasty politics, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, is likely to contest from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency. It was the chief minister himself who gave a hint in this regard.
At an event in Shivamogga, Kumaraswamy said that the political climate in Mandya was conducive for a victory for his son, who acts in Kannada movies. He also added that Nikhil had a lot of political admirers in Mysuru as well, which would make it all the more easy for him to win in Mandya.
"
In the last few months, it might be recalled that Nikhil has been camping in Mandya. In one of his talks with JD(S) admirers, Nikhil had played smart by saying that he wanted his grandfather (former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda) to contest from Mandya. This statement was obviously made, keeping in mind that his candidacy from the region was uncertain. Now that his father is saying that his candidacy is almost certain, Nikhil must be a relieved man.
Presently, LR Shivarame Gowda is the MP from Mandya. He won the Mandya by-poll by a handsome margin.
Interestingly, Sumalatha, the wife of late Kannada cine actor Ambareesh, may contest the elections from Mandya. In that case, everything will boil down to Gowda family versus Ambareesh family. And if that happens, Sumalatha will contest as an independent candidate. That is because as per the Karnataka coalition dharma, Congress will not contest from Mandya as this region is a stronghold of the JD(S).
Sources also tell us that many Congress workers want Sumalatha to contest from Mandya as she will get a lot of support owing to the fact that Ambareesh has a huge fan base in Mandya.
Interestingly, Prajwal Revanna, son of PWD minister and Kumaraswamy’s brother HD Revanna, is likely to contest from Hassan.
