Bengaluru: In a major achievement, India became the fastest country to vaccinate its people, in the sense that it overtook the US in administering the most number of vaccines. 

The average daily rate is 30,93,861 Covid-19 vaccine doses.

With over 29.98 lakh average daily Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered, the US is the second fastest vaccinating country in the world, followed by Brazil with 6.46 lakh average daily jabs, Health Ministry notes. 

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 8.70 crore.

As many as 8,70,77,474 vaccine doses have been administered through 13,32,130 sessions in India, as per the provisional report till 7 am on Wednesday, the ministry added. 

According to the ministry, those vaccinated so far include 89,63,724 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose and 53,94,913 HCWs who have taken the second dose.

Also, 97,36,629 frontline workers (FLWs) have received first dose of the vaccine while 43,12,826 FLWs have been adminitered the second dose.

Meanwhile, 3,53,75,953 people above 60 years of age have received the first dose and 10,00,787 have received the second dose.

As many as 2,18,60,709 beneficiaries aged between 45 and 60 have received the first dose while 4,31,933 have been administered the second dose of the vaccine.

It should be noted that over 33 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.

Out of 33 lakh beneficiaries in last 24 hours, 30,08,087 were vaccinated across 41,396 sessions for first dose and 3,29,514 received second dose of vaccine.
