A CPM and a Samajwadi Party leader have acquired the dubious distinction of dividing the country by speaking the language of the enemy at a time when we are perhaps on the brink of a war with Pakistan
New Delhi: At a time when the entire nation is together, standing united in support of Indian defence forces for carrying out air strike on Jaish-E-Mohammed (JeM) terror facility in Pakistan’s Balakot, a section of the political opposition is questioning the non-military pre-emptive strike.
Targeting ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the centre, a senior CPI(M) leader in Kerala said that the strike was part of an attempt by the BJP to trigger a war and derail the upcoming general elections.
“The BJP government, which fears defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, is trying to polarise communities through war mongering,” said CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.
Balakrishnan blamed BJP for worsening the condition in Kashmir. “Instead of finding a solution to the insurgency in Kashmir, the BJP government is trying to make things worse by making the people of Kashmir enemies of the state," he said.
His comment left many fuming in anger as all the opposition leaders, cutting across party lines, have recently come together and hailed the IAF action.
It is not just CPI(M)'s Balakrishnan who has doubted India's intention behind the action. senior Samajwadi Party (SP) Vinod Kumar joined him and termed the strike as ‘fake’.
A former Uttar Pradesh minister and senior SP leader Vinod Kumar said, "It was known for five days that they (the government) have colluded with Pakistan and decided to drop a couple of bombs on an abandoned house. And then issue a statement (to the media).” He added the air strike was "false".
SP leader Vinod Kumar, who is also known as Pandit Singh, was addressing party workers at a programme in Gonda on Tuesday. The SP leader accused the BJP of "spreading terror". "By forming government in Jammu and Kashmir with Mehbooba Mufti, they proved that they had no hesitation in joining hands with those who supported terrorism," Singh claimed.
Calling such politicians ‘shameless bullies’, BJP Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Twitter wrote, “At a time whn every Indian man woman n child is in support of #India ‘s determination n resolve to fight terror - u hv to be eithr a vote bank Desperado or Mentally unstable or Marxist to open ur mouth n spout nonsense like @b_kodiyeri (sic””
