The IMD forecasts relief from Delhi NCR's heat with anticipated rain, while warnings remain for severe weather in surrounding areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted relief from the scorching heat in Delhi NCR with light to moderate rain and winds expected over the next few hours. The rain is predicted to bring respite to areas including North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, Central Delhi, and parts of NCR such as Loni Dehat, Hindon Air Force Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula. Similar weather conditions are expected in Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda (Haryana), Bagpat, Khekra, Modinagar, and Pilakhua (Uttar Pradesh).
Meanwhile, as the national capital region continues to endure severe heat, the IMD anticipates monsoon showers to arrive by June 30. On Wednesday, the IMD issued a red alert for West Uttar Pradesh for the next two days due to intense weather conditions.
Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD scientist, stated that while earlier alerts covered Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, the situation has improved in some areas with rainfall observed in Bihar. For Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR, an orange alert is in effect, whereas West Uttar Pradesh remains under a red alert.
In Delhi-NCR, temperatures are expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius. Dr. Kumar emphasized that the onset of monsoon is anticipated around June 30, providing potential relief from the ongoing heatwave.
The severity of the heatwave was underscored by reports from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, which recorded five suspected heatstroke deaths on Wednesday. Additionally, 12 individuals, primarily daily wage laborers, were reported in critical condition and on ventilator support due to heat-related illnesses.
Dr. Ajay Shukla, Medical Superintendent at RML Hospital, noted that 11 heatstroke cases were admitted on Tuesday alone, marking the highest single-day intake this season. Since the onset of the heatwave a month ago, the hospital has treated at least 45 patients for heat-related ailments.
The IMD's predictions and alerts reflect ongoing efforts to monitor and mitigate the impact of extreme weather conditions across the region, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and safety measures during such challenging periods.
