A Hyderabad woman tried to set herself and her children on fire alleging that her husband, a cop, harassed her
Hyderabad: A woman, Renuka attempted to kill herself and her three sons by setting fire. This after she alleged harassment by her husband who also is a police officer.
The incident took place at a time when the Commissioner was about to address the media at LB Nagar.
Reports stated that Renuka and her three children came to the spot with a can of petrol.
She then doused herself and her sons and attempted to set fire.
Media persons and police officials gathered there immediately and thwarted the attempt.
She told the media that her husband, Rajaiah, reportedly a police inspector, had married her without disclosing his previous marriage with another woman.
The couple married in 2009. Subsequently, Renuka filed a complaint against him in Saroornagar police station in 2018. The case is presently before the Lok Adalat.
Rajaiah was an inspector in LB Nagar who is now posted in Sangareddy district.
Police officials claim that there was no delay in registering the case and they even filed a chargesheet after investigation.
Police said that after registering the case, both parties sought a compromise.
Renuka alleged that Rajaiah had a fake case registered against her under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
Following this, the Hayathnagar police issued a notice to her. Upset over the police notice and alleging police inaction against her husband, Renuka attempted to commit suicide with her kids.
After thwarting the suicide bid, police shifted them to a hospital from where they were discharged later.
