Bengaluru: In the past eight to ten months, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has wept a number of times. Now, it is time for his father HD Deve Gowda, brother HD Revanna and his nephew Prajwal Revanna to shed tears in public.

As the former Prime Minister is finding it difficult to choose a constituency to contest from, he has been bombarded with the allegations that he is trying to push his family further into politics, said BJP leader Jagadish Shettar. This allegation certainly has pinched HD Deve Gowda badly.

Earlier in the day, while HD Deve Gowda was addressing a rally in Hassan, he couldn’t control his tears. As he spoke, his voice choked. Interestingly, his son HD Revanna and grandson Prajwal Revanna too shed tears.

The Gowda family might have been able to garner some sympathy, but certainly, not politically. Senior BJP leader Jagadish Shettar has mocked the Gowda family for shedding tears publicly. Taking to Twitter, this is what he had to say:

Making fun of the ‘crocodile tears’,  Jagadish Shettar wondered why the Gowda family didn’t cry when soldiers were martyred, or former PMs were assassinated. Furthermore, Shettar also questioned why the Gowda family kept quiet and not shed tears when farmers committed suicide, owing to loans.

Meanwhile, there are talks that HD Deve Gowda might give up his desire to contest elections in order to accommodate his grandsons Prajwal Revanna from Hassan and Nikhil from Mandya. There are still talks going around that Deve Gowda might contest from Bangaluru North against Sadananda Gowda or from Tumakuru or Mysuru.

But Gowda is well-experienced to understand that his chances of winning from Bengaluru North are slim. And as regards to Tumakuru or Mysuru, it is the Congress which has sitting MPs from there. So they would not give up on their constituencies. That being the case, do we assume that HD Deve Gowda has called it a day on his political innings?

Or will there be another surprise in the next few days?
