Amul raises milk prices to address rising production costs, with varying increases across its product range; read about the latest price adjustments and their impact.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), known for its popular brand Amul, has announced a price increase for its fresh milk products across all markets in the country, effective from June 3, 2024. The price hike varies depending on the type of milk, with Amul Gold and Amul Taaza seeing a Rs 2 increase per litre, Amul Buffalo Milk increasing by Rs 3 per litre, and other variants rising by Rs 1 per litre.
This decision comes as a response to the rising input costs associated with milk production and operations. GCMMF, the largest dairy producer in India, emphasized that the increase is necessary to maintain sustainable operations and support dairy farmers. Over the past year, the federation has raised the procurement price for milk from farmers by approximately 6-8%.
Despite this price adjustment, Amul highlights that it has refrained from increasing milk prices since February 2023 in major markets. Moreover, the federation ensures that almost 80% of the consumer's payment for milk goes directly to milk producers, aiming to sustain fair prices and encourage higher milk production.
Following the price revision, customers can expect changes in the MRP for various Amul milk products. For instance, the half-litre pouch of Amul Gold will now be priced at Rs 34, up from Rs 33, while the one-litre pouch will cost Rs 68 instead of Rs 66. Similarly, Amul Cow Milk's half-litre pouch will retail at Rs 29, up from Rs 28, with the one-litre pouch priced at Rs 57 instead of Rs 56.
Furthermore, Amul Taaza's half-litre pouch will see an increase to Rs 28 from Rs 27, and the one-litre pack will be priced at Rs 56 compared to the current Rs 54. Similarly, customers purchasing Amul Slim n Trim will notice a slight increase of Rs 1 on both half-litre and one-litre pouches, with prices set at Rs 25 and Rs 49, respectively.
This price adjustment aims to ensure the sustainability of Amul's operations while supporting dairy farmers and maintaining the quality and availability of its products for consumers across the country.
