New Delhi: After months of speculations, the leader from Gujarat Alpesh Thakor looks all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). The chances of that became all the more apparent after the former OBC leader met Nitin Patel met Alpesh Thakor. Sources say, the meeting went on for more than an hour, and the intricacies of Thakore joining BJP were discussed in it. He is likely to join the saffron party along with a few of his followers.
The move comes just a day after PM Narendra Modi visited Ahmedabad for a day where he had a meeting with Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, deputy CM Nitin Patel in the presence of Amit Shah. The meeting came on the sidelines of a public rally at JP Chowk in Khanpur area of Ahmedabad by PM Modi.
Thakor is still a member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He is an MLA from Radhanpur which he fought in a Congress ticket. Thakore earlier in April resigned from the Congress ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but had retained his position as an MLA. Thakor was given a 24-hour ultimatum by the powerful Thakor community elder to step down from the Congress. Meanwhile, Congress sought his disqualification as MLA right after Gujarat voted, but the matter is still pending.
This move comes days after Gujarat voted for BJP in all the 26 seats, giving the saffron party a whopping 303.
