Chhattisgarh witnessed a remarkable act of generosity as 11-year-old Prakhar Sahu, a football enthusiast from Korba district, became the youngest cadaver donor in the state. Tragically, Prakhar's life took an unexpected turn on May 31 while practicing running in the playground.

A mishap occurred when a football goalpost fell on him, causing severe internal injuries. He was swiftly taken to a private hospital in the capital city, where doctors performed surgery.

Despite the efforts, Prakhar was declared brain-dead on the evening of June 5. In a heartbreaking moment, his parents, Ramesh and Manju Sahu, faced the daunting decision of organ donation. Initially torn by grief, they were approached by a team of transplant coordinators, including Umashankar Mishra and Dr. Nikita Srivastava, who gently counseled them on the possibility of donating their son's organs.

It was a difficult decision for the grieving parents, but they found solace in the idea that Prakhar could continue to live on through the gift of his organs. With immense courage and generosity, they consented to donate Prakhar's organs and tissues, which included a pair of kidneys, a liver, a pair of corneas, and a heart valve.

Prakhar's selfless act has brought hope to many. Dr. Vineet Jain, Director of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), commended the parents' decision, emphasizing the profound impact it has on inspiring others to participate in organ donation. He highlighted the importance of such acts of kindness, particularly when they come from parents of young children, as they set a powerful example for society.

This act of generosity marks a significant milestone in Chhattisgarh's journey towards promoting organ donation. Prakhar's donation adds to the growing list of deceased donors in the state, bringing the gift of life to those in need. Since the inception of organ donation efforts, seven donors in Chhattisgarh have contributed to saving 17 lives, with donations including 13 kidneys and four livers.

Prakhar's legacy will forever live on, not only in the hearts of his family but also in the lives of those who have received his precious gift. His story serves as a reminder of the power of compassion and the transformative impact of organ donation in bringing hope and healing to others in their time of need.
