Breaking Boundaries: Inspiring Story of Rajani Pandit, India’s First Female Detective

Whenever we talk about detective work, the image of men always emerges in our minds, but Rajani Pandit broke this perception and achieved the honor of becoming India's first female detective. In the 1980s, when being a detective was considered an impossible career for women in society, Rajani established herself in this field with her intelligence, courage, and willpower. In her career spanning more than four decades, she solved more than 75,000 cases, which included all types of mysteries from corporate fraud to personal disputes.

Rajani Pandit was born in Mumbai in 1962. Her father worked in the Crime Investigation Department (CID), due to which her interest in crime and investigation developed from childhood itself.

Her detective journey started when she was studying at Ruparel College. She noticed that one of her classmates would repeatedly disappear from class. Out of curiosity, she kept an eye on her activities and found out that she was involved in some suspicious activities. When she informed her parents about this, they initially denied it, but later thanked Rajani. That was the turning point that inspired her to make detective work a career.

Rajani started her detective services by solving mysteries for her friends and colleagues. But in 1991, she established her own detective agency, which made her famous all over India. Her popularity increased when Delhi Doordarshan interviewed her and major advertisements were published about her in newspapers.
